Chima Lubin was born and raised in Brooklyn N.Y. but moved to Fl after graduating from Binghamton State University where she received her Bachelor’s of Science in human development. She is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and a certified clinical trauma professional with a mental health private practice in Lakewood ranch fl which started a year ago. She has extensive background working with at risk youth, children and families in outpatient, inpatient, in home and juvenile detention center settings for over 10 yrs and she absolutely love’s it. She understands that no single approach is the right one for every individual and so she’s been trained in a range of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, trauma focused-cognitive behavioral therapy and solution focused family therapy, trauma informed therapy, somatic therapy and dialectical behavioral therapy. Chima’s educational background includes a bachelor of science in human development from Binghamton State University of New York and Masters of Arts and in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University in Sarasota Florida. She has extensive background and a great deal of experience in working with children, teens and families. Outside of work, she loves spending time with family, singing and writing books.

Topic Description: Complex trauma in Urban African American children, youth and families. How can we be more culturally competant when working with African American families?

Objectives:

1. To learn and recognize signs & symptoms of complex trauma in urban African American children, youth & families.

2. To learn about the specific challenges to providing services.

3. To learn how to be culturally competent or sensitive when working with urban African American children and families.
