IAFF Center of Excellence Now In-Network with Cigna

October 23, 2017

INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF FIRE FIGHTERS CENTER OF EXCELLENCE NOW IN-NETWORK WITH CIGNA

Cigna members across the country may now use in-network benefits for treatment for substance abuse, post-traumatic stress (PTSD) and other co-occurring mental health issues

Upper Marlboro, Md – October 18, 2017—The International Association of Fire Fighters Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery – a one-of-a-kind facility focusing on treating fire fighters battling post-traumatic stress and other behavioral health issues – is now a participating provider with Cigna, allowing in-network benefits to be used to access the center.

The agreement will provide greater and more affordable access to the center for past and present IAFF union members who are Cigna members.

“One in five fire fighters and paramedics will suffer from post-traumatic stress in their career,” said IAFF General President Harold Schaitberger. “It is essential that we make treatment for PTSD, addiction and other behavioral health issues affordable for all IAFF members. Access to the Center of Excellence is now much more affordable for members with Cigna as their insurance provider. The IAFF will continue to work with insurance providers to ensure all IAFF members have the same access.”

The IAFF Center of Excellence is a full-service treatment facility located outside of Washington, D.C., specializing in comprehensive care for professional fire fighters and paramedics struggling with substance abuse, post-traumatic stress and co-occurring mental health issues. The center is a Maryland licensed treatment provider and an accredited provider of behavioral healthcare services by The Joint Commission.

The IAFF Center of Excellence is a joint project between the IAFF and Advanced Recovery Systems, an integrated behavioral healthcare management company.

“It is critical to our organization to continue expanding access to the Center of Excellence to IAFF members seeking treatment opportunities and recovery from substance abuse, addiction and PTSD,” said Dr. Lewis Gold, Chairman of the Board of Advanced Recovery Systems. “We are pleased that Cigna has recognized the exceptional quality of care available in this unique setting and it is our mission to further contract with as many insurance providers as possible so IAFF union members can get the help they need and deserve.”
